The NCAA recently announced the selection of Scott Farmer as the chairman on its Division I Softball Committee.

Farmer is Louisiana’s Senior Associate Director of Athletics and has served in that capacity for three years now. Prior to being named chairman of the committee this year, Farmer served on the committee each of the last two years.

“Scott will lead a group of nine other individuals in selecting, seeding and bracketing the 64 team bracket,” said Sharon Cessna, NCAA Director of Championships.

“In addition, the committee is responsible for the oversight of the sport at large, including student-athlete welfare, selection and assignment of umpires and communication with coaches and other stakeholders in making sure we are always doing what is best for the sport at large,” Cessna added.

The committee is also responsible for the management and administration of the Division I Softball Championship including the Women’s College World Series.

“I am very honored to be named chairman of the NCAA Division I Softball Committee,” Farmer said. “I take this role very seriously and I look forward to doing the best job I can for college softball.”

The NCAA softball regular season begins on February 11 and the season concludes on June 8 at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Cajuns will host the 25th annual Louisiana Classics on opening weekend and will look to close out the season in Oklahoma City for the sixth time in school history.
