Robert Meachem Inks 4 Year Deal With San Diego

 Robert Meachem became the first New Orleans Saints wide receiver in 5 years to leave in free agency today. The 27 year old former first round draft pick agreed to a 4 year deal with the San Diego Chargers.

Meachem's deal is worth $25.9 million, with $14 million guaranteed. Some speculated that Meachem would sign with Buffalo after visiting the Bills yesterday, but the Chargers made the University of Tennessee product an offer he couldn't refuse.

San Diego lost Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson in free agency yesterday when Jackson agreed to a deal with the Bucs. Chargers general manager A.J. Smith and head coach Norv Turner obviously feel that Meachem can be an every down wide receiver, something he never did with the Saints.
