1941 —The Brooklyn Dodgers clinched their first pennant in 21 years by beating the Boston Braves, 6-0. (More info.)

1956 — Sal Maglie of the Brooklyn Dodgers no-hit the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-0, at Ebbets Field. (More info.)

1962 — Sonny Liston knocked out Floyd Patterson in the first round of their fight at Comiskey Park in Chicago to win the world heavyweight championship. (More info.)

1986 — Mike Scott of the Astros no-hit the San Francisco Giants, 2-0, in the Astrodome. The win allowed Houston to clinch the National League West title. (More info.)

1989 — Wade Boggs of the Boston Red Sox recorded 200 hits for a major league record-seventh straight season in a 7-4 win over the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. (More info.)
