After 32 Years, Ron Santo Finally Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame

Astros Fire GM Ed Wade/Team President Tal Smith

The Houston Astros have fired general manager Ed Wade, along with team president Tal Smith, in the first major moves by new owner Jim Crane, who took over official control of the Astros' ownership last Tuesday.

Wade had been the Astros general manager since September of 2007, when he took over for Tim Purpura.

The Astros were 292-355 in the four full season with Wade as GM, including a 56-106 record in 2011, the worst in franchise history.

Smith had been team president since 1994, and spent more than 30 of his more than 50 years as a baseball executive in Houston.

Assistant general manager Dave Gottfried will serve as interim GM, but will not be considered for the permanent job.
