The San Diego Padres have agreed to terms with free agent pitcher James Shields on a four-year deal.

The estimated value of the contract for the right-hander, which also includes a team option, is between $72-$75 million.

The 32-year old Shields spent the last two seasons with the Kansas city Royals, compiling 27-17 record, along with a 3.18 ERA., including a 14-8 record with a 3.21 ERA. in 2014.

A California native, Shields was drafted in the 16th round of the MLB Amateur Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2000, before making his debut with Tampa Bay in 2006, where he went 87=73 with a 3.79 ERA. in seven seasons, prior to being traded to Kansas City.

In his nine seasons in MLB, Shields has accumulated an overall record of 114-90, along with a 3.72 ERA.

Shields has made at least 33 starts for eight-consecutive years, and has eclipsed 200 innings for eight-straight seasons, while ranking first among starting pitchers in innings, 15th in ERA, and 19th in K/BB since 2011.
