A number of people have represented the Acadiana area in the National Football League.

All summer long, we’re going to spotlight the fantastic athletes from the area, people that were actually born in one of the Acadiana parishes, that went on to play football at the highest level, the NFL.

Yesterday, we profiled Lafayette native Billy Ryckman.

Today, we spotlight Jim Gueno.

Born on January 15, 1954 in Crowley, Gueno attended Crowley High School.

Following his high school years, Gueno went  to college at Tulane, where he was tabbed an All-American at linebacker following the 1976 season.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Gueno was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 9th round of the 1976 NFL Draft.

Gueno made his NFL debut with the Packers in 1976, at the age of 22, appearing in all 14 games, mostly as a reserve, and on special teams, recovering 2 fumbles.

The next four seasons, 1977-1980, Gueno appeared in 51 of a possible 52 games, including 8 as a starter at outside linebacker.

In five NFL seasons, all with Green Bay, Gueno played in 75 games, while starting 8, accumulating 4 fumble recoveries.

Today, Gueno is 63-years old.
