A number of people have represented the Acadiana area in the National Football League.

All summer long, we’re going to spotlight the fantastic athletes from the area, people that were actually born in one of the Acadiana parishes, that went on to play football at the highest level, the NFL.

Yesterday, we profiled Rusty Guilbeau, who grew up in Sunset.

Today, we spotlight former Crowley High School great Shane Garrett.

Born on November 16, 1967 in Lafayette, Garrett grew up in Crowley, and later attended Crowley High School, where he was a standout receiver, and tabbed a member of Louisiana's Super Dozen class of 1987.

Following his high school years, Garrett went on to college at Texas A&M, where he compiled 35 catches for 696 yards and 5 touchdowns, while playing for the Aggies from 1988-1990.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Garrett was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 9th round of the 1991 NFL Draft.

Garrett made his NFL debut with the Bengals in 1991, at the age of 24, playing in 4 games, mainly as a kick returner on special teams.

He did catch 3 passes 32 yards in that 1991 campaign.

That season proved to be Garrett's lone season in the NFL.

Today, Garrett is 49-years old.
