Rayne and Crowley will square off tonight in this week's premier District 4-4A contest.
Sure, fellow district member Eunice (3-3, 1-2) will host District 7-1A power Vermilion Catholic (5-1, 3-0) in a potentially great non-district matchup. But, within the district, the Wolves (5-1, 1-1) and the Gents (5-2, 3-1) matchup will feature some outstanding talent and two teams who will presumably play for second place in the district.

That "1" in each of their district records represents the one loss that each team suffered to current undefeated district leader LaGrange (3-4, 3-0). All of LaGrange's losses were to non-district powers Notre Dame, Barbe, University Lab and Calvary Baptist. With Beau Chene, Opelousas and Washington-Marion left on their schedule, many presume the Gators will go undefeated the rest of the regular season, presuming they don't look past any of these teams.

Tonight's game features two offenses that contain multiple playmakers on each side. In last week's district win over district rival Eunice, Rayne running backs Deontray Wilridge and John Michael Besse were phenomenal in the 20-13 victory. Wildridge rushed for 120 yards, while Besse tallied 100 yards of combined rushing and receiving yards for the Wolves. In last week's loss to LaGrange, Crowley's offense still managed 24 points. But, defensively, they gave up 43 to the Gators. The Gents are led by three juniors on offense - speedy QB Pate Broussard, athletic RB Ty'von Griffin and intense WR Terrell Thomas.

Tonight's matchup can be heard on Newstalk 96.5 KPEL FM. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night as Ian Auzenne (play-by-play) and Brandon Comeaux (color) will have the call.
