David West is officially out for the season with a torn ACL. The injury occured last night when his left knee buckled late in regulation in an eventual overtime victory over Utah. Here is more from Marc Stein and espn.com.

The Hornets immediately feared that West suffered a season-ending injury when it happened, but Friday's MRI confirmed the severity of the injury, which means a months-long absence for West entering what was thought to be a lucrative free-agent summer for him.

One source close to West said the Hornets' power forward is hoping to complete his rehab in six months.

This is devestating news for both the New Orleans Hornets, and David West. West's value in free agency took a hit, while the Hornets playoff chances did as well. New Orleans was going to have trouble in a playoff series as a 6,7, or 8 seed, but if matched up against the Mavs or Spurs, two teams they've beaten twice this year, New Orleans would have a chance. Without West, the Hornets will have a rough time in any playoff series. Of course, that's if the Hornets are fortunate enough to reach the postseason.

The Hornets are in the seventh playoff spot in the West. The last 10 games on the schedule are against opposition with a record of .500 or better.

Like I said, devestating news.
