John Coker, probably the best defensive outfielder Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns fans have ever seen, returns to M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field tonight for the first time since ending his playing career after the 2005 season.

Coker will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before game one of the three game Sun Belt Conference series against the Troy Trojans.  Gametime is at 6pm.

Sgt. John Coker, as you probably know, was seriously injured while defending his country in Afghanistan back in September.  He has been undergoing extensive rehabilitation since the injury.

"It didn't surprise me that he was the leader of his group,"  Cajuns head coach Tony Robichaux said upon learning of the injury.  He was a leader for us, too."

Coker is originally from Oklahoma.  But you know what we say around here...once a Cajun.  Always a Cajun.

Welcome home, John.

Back in September, I wrote a blog about Coker's career and his injury.  You can read it by clicking here.
