US Women’s World Cup Sets TV Viewing Record
Who says soccer isn't popular in the USA?
The Women's World Cup final between the United States and Japan was the most watched soccer match in US television history.
FOX says the English television broadcast drew a 12.9 rating and an average of 25,4 million viewers, while NBC's Telemundo drew an estimated 1.27 viewers. The combined audience set a new record, set last year in the Men's World Cup Final. The viewership was nearly double the rating of Japan's win over the US four years ago and broke the all-time record for women's soccer, set in the 1999 final.
The viewership was larger than Game 7 of last year's World Series, this year's deciding game in the NBA finals and the deciding game of the NHL playoffs.
