UL Women Capture 69-57 Win Over Georgia Southern

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun women’s basketball team recorded a Sun Belt Conference road victory on Thursday, downing the Georgia Southern Eagles, 69-57, in Statesboro, Georgia.
The win was the second-straight for Louisiana, who now returns home for a three-game homestand.
The Cajuns jumped out to a 9-2 lead, extended that advantage to 26-12 at the 7:10 mark, and never relinquished the lead in the first half, taking a 28-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Georgia Southern out-shot Louisiana in the first half, 44%-38%, but the Cajuns out-rebounded the Eagles, 22-21, and forced 11 turnovers, while turning over the basketball only twice themselves.
Keke Veal led the way for Louisiana in the first half, scoring 8 points, to go along with three steals, while Anna Claire Knight paced Georgia Southern with 8 points of her own.
UL scored 11 of the first 16 points of the second half, to extend their lead to 39-28 at the 16:00 mark, and never looked back, leading from start-to-finish, as they cruised to the 12-point triumph.
Georgia Southern finished the game out-shooting Louisiana from the floor, 44%-37%, but the Cajuns ended the game with a 44-34 rebounding edge, while forcing 22 turnovers.
Veal lead the way for the Cajuns, finishing with a game-high 22 points, to go along with five steals, while Kia Wilridge added 14 points and 3 rebounds.
In a losing cause for the Eagles, Knight had 19 points and five rebounds, while Amber McGowan chipped in with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
With the win, Louisiana improved to 10-4, overall, and 2-3 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Georgia Southern fell to 4-10, and 1-4, respectively.
