The season came to an end for the 21st-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Sunday.

Louisiana fell to the 11th-ranked LSU Tigers, 3-1, in the championship game of the Baton Rouge Regional at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.

The Cajuns stayed alive, after defeating LSU in the first game, 5-4, in 10 innings.

Louisiana, who lost to Houston, 1-0 on Friday, before defeating Fordham and Houston on Saturday, by scores of 13-5 and 7-2, respectively, were playing in the 11th-consecutive regional final.

The Cajuns, who appeared in an NCAA Regional for the 20th-consecutive year, and for the 28th time in the last 29 years, moved their all-time record in NCAA Tournament history to 76-59 with the two contests.

The Cajuns forced an if necessary game in dramatic fashion, taking a 10 inning, 5-4 win.

Summer Ellyson, who pitched the first four innings before being relieved by Kylee Jo Trahan, was brought back into the game in the top half of the eighth inning, pitching a scoreless 8th, 9th, and 10th inning, winning her 23rd game of the season against nine losses.

Ellyson walked two and struck out two in her seven innings of work, and gave up three runs.

Trahan, in relief for the Cajuns, pitched three innings, allowing two hits, while giving up one run.

Allie Walljasper, who came on in relief of LSU starter Carley Hoover with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, took the loss and fell to 17-6, on the season.

With the win in game one, UL improved to 41-15 overall, while LSU fell to 43-15.

LSU came up with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to break a 1-1 tie and go on to the 3-1 win, clinching a spot in the the Super Regionals where they will take on Florida State in Tallahassee with an opportunity to return to the Women’s College World Series.

Summer Ellyson pitched a complete game and took the loss to finish the season with a record of 23-10, while the Cajuns end the season at 41-16.

Allie Walljasper was the winning pitcher, improving to 18-6, and LSU is now 44-15 overall on the season.

LSU broke open a scoreless ballgame in their half of the fourth inning with three runs. Taryn Antoine led off the inning with a base on balls and scored on an Amanda Doyle RBI single, followed by a two run blast over the left field wall by Michaela Schlattman, give the Tiger a 3-0 lead going into the bottom half of the fourth inning.

The Tigers increased their lead to 4-0 in the top half of the sixth inning as Antoine walked once again to lead off the inning, and scored on a Doyle sacrifice fly.

The Cajuns scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at four at the end of the sixth inning.

Kelli Martinez singled to left with one out and with two outs, Kara Gremillion walked and Lexie Comeaux delivered an RBI single to right centerfield to cut the LSU lead to 4-1.

After a Carrie Boswell walk loaded the bases, Kourtney Gremillion doubled to left field, clearing the bases and tying the game at four.

After both the Tigers and the Cajuns did not score in the seventh inning, the game went into extra innings, the 11th extra inning game of the season for the Cajuns.

Louisiana forced the if necessary game with a run in the bottom of the tenth inning as Aeriyl Mass scored from second base on an Alissa Dalton RBI single to centerfield and the Cajuns picked up their 41st win of the season by the score of 5-4. The Cajuns are now 8-3 on the season in extra innings games.

Louisiana outhit the Tigers 7-6 in the contest, led at the plate by Kourtney Gremillion with two hits and three RBI. Martinez, Kara Gremillion, Comeaux, and Boswell all had hits, and Dalton had the game winning RBI single.

LSU broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning, in game 2, as Amber Serrett led off with a triple off the left field wall and scored on pinch hitter, Sydney Springfield’s, RBI single, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the end of the fifth inning.

Louisiana answered with a single run in the top half of the sixth to tie the game at one.

Consecutive Aeriyl Mass and Kelli Martinez singles placed runners at first and second for the Cajuns with no outs.

With one out, a successful double steal placed Mass at third and Rodriguez at second. Mass scored on a Kara Gremillion RBI ground out, tying the game at 1-1, in the middle of the sixth inning.

LSU retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, on a controversial call at the plate, and Cajuns coach Gerry Glasco was ejected questioning the call.

Going to the seventh inning, LSU led 3-1, which would be the final score as LSU retired the Cajuns in order in the top of the seventh inning.

LSU outhit the Cajuns 7-3 in game two, as Martinez, Rodriguez, and Mass had hits for Louisiana.

For Louisiana, their season ended with an overall record of 41-15.
