The 16th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun softball team rolled to another win on Friday, in the second day of play in the Mardi Gras Invitational at Lamson Park.

Louisiana defeated the Dartmouth Big Green, 12-5, scoring the first 6, and the last 5 runs of the contest.

With the triumph, UL who defeated Drake (9-3) and Bowling Green (14-2) on Thursday, remains unbeaten in the tournament, at 3-0.

The victory also pushed the Cajuns’ current win streak to five games, in the 12th game of a season-opening 23-game homestand.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, plating two runs in the top half of the second inning, courtesy of sacrifice fly-RBI's off the bats of Beth Ashley and Lexie Comeaux, to 2-0 lead.

The Cajuns added four more runs in the top half of the 3rd inning, with three coming on a long home run off the bat of Haley Hayden, her second of the season, extending their advantage to 6-0.

Dartmouth scored their first run in the bottom half of the third inning, when Alyssa Jorgensen singled home Claire Bird, to trim the deficit to 6-1.

Louisiana added a run of their own in the top half of the 4th inning, when Ashley singled home Hayden, making it 7-1.

The Big Green, refusing to give up, got a 2-run homer from Chloe Madill in the bottom half of the 4th inning, to get to within 4 runs, at 7-3.

Dartmouth got even closer in the bottom half of the 5th inning, when Karen Chew knocked in two runs with a two-out double, to trim the UL lead 7-5.

The Cajuns put up five big insurance runs in the top half of the 7th inning, with three coming on a two-out double by Daniella Chavez, to increase their lead to 12-5.

That was all that UL would need, as they went on to the 7-run win.

Louisiana, who outhit Dartmouth, 10-8, was led at the plate by Hayden, who collected three hits, including a homer, while Hayden, Chavez, and Ashley, all drove in three runs

Summer Ellyson (1-0) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Macey Smith worked the final 2.1 innings to record her first save of season.

Breanna Ethridge (0-1) suffered the loss for Dartmouth, allowing 2 runs over 2 innings.

With the triumph, Louisiana improved to 9-3, while Dartmouth slipped to 8-5.

The Cajuns return to action on Saturday, taking on Maryland at 3 o'clock.
