The 16th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team racked-up two more wins on Thursday, in the first day of play in the Mardi Gras Invitational at Lamson Park.

Louisiana defeated Drake in their first game of the day, 9-3, before downing Bowling Green, 14-2, in their second game of the day, in 5-inning mercy-rule fashion.

The two victories pushed the Cajuns' current win streak to four games, in the 10th and 11th games of a season-opening 23-game homestand.

In the opener, Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, plating three run in the top half of the third inning, including two unearned runs, as well as a solo home run off the bat of Haley Hayden, her first of the season, to take a 3-0 lead.

The Cajuns added three more runs in the top half of the 5th inning, courtesy of a 3-run homer by Aleah Craighton, her second of the season, extending their advantage to 6-0.

Hayden and Craighton came through again in the top half of the 6th inning, each with runs batted in, as Louisiana scored two runs without the benefit of a hit, widening their lead to 8-0.

Drake put there first runs of the game on the board in the bottom half of the 6th inning, when Sarah Maddox belted a 3-run homer, to trim the deficit to 8-3.

The Cajuns added an insurance run in the top half of the 7th inning, when Daniella Chavez crushed her first home run of the season, to make it 9-3.

That would wrap-up the scoring, as the Cajuns went on to the 9-3 win.

Louisiana, who was outhit Drake, 7-6, was led at the plate by Hayden and Craighton, who both homered, while combining for 6 RBI's, with Chavez adding a long ball.

Alyssa Denham (3-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work.

Nicole Newman (5-3) suffered the loss for Drake, allowing 4 hits and 6 runs over 4 innings.

With the triumph, Louisiana improved to 7-3, while Drake slipped to 8-5.

In the second game Louisiana jumped on top early, scoring three runs in the top half of the first inning, with two coming on a two-run home run y Chavez, to take a quick 3-0 lead.

Bowling Green scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the frame, cutting the UL advantage to 3-1.

The Cajuns put up three more runs in the top half of the 3rd inning, as they collected five hits in the frame, including a two-run single off the bat of Chavez, for her 3rd and 4th RBI's of the game, to widen their lead to 6-1.

Louisiana put the game away in the top half of the 4th inning, scoring four more times, including a 3-run homer by D.J. Sanders, her fourth of the year, to take a commanding 10-1 lead.

The Falcons scored their final run of the game in the bottom half of the 4th inning, when Chelsea Raker crushed a solo homer to left, to make it 10-2.

The Cajuns added four insurance runs in the top half of the 5th inning, making it 14-2, as they cruised to the 12-run triumph.

Louisiana, who outhit Bowling Green, 12-3, was paced at the plate by Chavez and Sanders, who both blasted 2-run homers, with Sanders going 3-for-3 with 4 runs scored.

Alex Stewart (4-1) picked-up the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing three hits and one earned run over 4 innings of work.

Briana Combs (1-2) suffered the loss for Bowling Green, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits in .2 innings.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 8-3 on the young season, while Bowling Green slipped to 6-5.

The Cajuns return to action on Friday afternoon, taking on Dartmouth at 3:45.
