Mauricio Rua TKOs  Brandon Vera

Brandon Vera may have lost to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the 4th round of this main event, but it was “The Truth” who looked like he really wanted the win. Rua appeared fatigued a bit in the latter rounds, and struggled to keep up with Vera’s pace. However, he landed a left hook in the fourt round, and followed it up with ground and pound before the referee stepped in to stop the bout.

Lyoto Machida Knocks Out Ryan Bader

Machida not only defeated Ryan Bader via knockout 1:32 into the second round of the light heavyweight tilt, he also won a shot at the winner of Henderson-Jones. The “Dragon” looked sharp, utilizing his trademarked counterpunches and kicks to keep the ASU wrestler at bay before finishing the fight, handing Bader his first KO loss with a short right counterpunch and somewhat unnecessary follow-up punches.

Joe Lauzon Submits Jamie Varner

J-Lau made a successful comeback after suffering from a loss to Anthony Pettis in his last bout. Varner came out strong in the first stanza, coming forward with heavy strikes, knocking the Boston fighter to the ground, easily defending an armbar attempt and finishing the round off with some knees to the body. Lauzon came out stronger in the second period, escaping a guillotine attempt, momentarily securing back mount and pushing forward  to take the fight to the ground on two occasions. Lauzon secured back mount again at the end of the round, although Varner managed to escape. In the third round, Varner made a mistake by scoring a takedown, giving Lauzon a chance to work his stellar submission game. Lauzon ended up getting a triangle choke, winning the bout at 2:44 in the final round. The bout won Fight of the Night, and Lauzon also won Submission of the Night for this scrap.

Mike Swick KOs DaMarques Johnson

Mike Swick was not without ring rust in his first time back in the cage since February 2010, and he looked rough in the first round. He ate a big elbow, took some extensive ground and pound, and Johnson attempted both a rear-naked choke and D’arce choke. But in the second round, Swick managed to catch Johnson’s kick and land a takedown, followed by a right hand and a few more right hands too many. He wins the fight by second round KO, 1:20 into the round, as well as Knockout of the  Night.
