An outstanding defensive performance and a game changing play on special teams led to two Louisiana student-athletes being honored today by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Monday.

Linebacker Dominique Tovell won the defensive award after recording twelve tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in Louisiana's 30-24 win over UL Monroe on Saturday.  Tovell's forced fumble recovery came on ULM's first offensive play an setting up a 41 yard field goal that gave the Cajuns a 3-0 lead.  His second sack came just before the blocked punt that set up a Cajuns' touchdown.

Chaiziere Malbrue won the special teams award after blocking a Chris Qualls punt that was recovered by Montrell Carter at the ULM 16 yard line.  The play set up Brooks Haack's 13 yard touchdown run which cut the Warhawks' lead to 24-22.

Northwestern State's De'Mard Llorens of Northwestern State scored four touchdowns for Northwestern State and was named offensive player of the week.
