This Isn’t a Joke — Baseball Legend Mike Piazza to Perform in a Ballet

Mike Piazza may need some performance-enhancing drugs to help him with his newest endeavor.

The 44-year-old New York Mets icon, considered by many to be the greatest hitting catcher of all-time, will appear in the Miami City Ballet production of ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’ for one night only on May 3.

Piazza will put his thespian skills to the test by portraying the Gangster, “a character who threatens the protagonist of the ballet and then coldly watches the performance unfold.”

The former all-star, who was rumored to be on the juice during his playing career, won’t dance, which means the production won’t be nearly as funny as you probably first thought.

Piazza got roped into the gig because his six-year-old daughter, Nicoletta, attends the school. Said Piazza, “For (Nicoletta) to have the opportunity to see Daddy on stage is my little gift. I’m looking forward to it.”

Amazingly, Piazza isn’t the first New York baseball icon to take a shot at ballet. In 2011, former Yankees first baseman and current Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly performed in ‘The Nutcracker’ in his hometown of Evansville, Indiana.

In other news, the Yankees will be putting on their own stage production this summer called ‘Guys and DLs.’
