Cajuns Down Cowboys 78-56

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team picked up a non-conference home victory on Thursday night, defeating the McNeese St. Cowboys, 78-56, at the Cajundome.

McNeese St. led the game, 26-20, at the 7:05 mark of the first half, but the Cajuns outscored the Cowboys, 20-7 the rest of the half to take a 40-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.

UL never trailed in the second half, and went on to coast to the  78-56 victory.

Louisiana out-shot McNeese St. from the field, 57%-36%, and also out-rebounded the Cowboys, 31-25.

Junior center Kadeem Coleby led the way for the Cajuns, with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while freshman guard Elfrid Payton chipped in with 10 points and five assits.

Jeremie Mitchell paced the Cowboys in a losing cause with 18 points.

With the win, UL improved to 4-5 on the season, while McNeese St. fell to 3-4.

Louisiana returns to action on Saturday night, when they travel to Beaumont, Texas, to take on the Lamar Cardinals, in non-conference play.

Cajuns Host Cowboys

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Thursday evening, as coach Bob Marlin's squad plays host to the McNeese St. Cowboys, in non-conference action.

The Cajuns, who are coming off a 76-67 setback to Kent St., on Monday night, are 3-5 on the year, while the Cowboys stand at 3-3.

This will be the 86th time in history that the two schools will meet, with UL holding a 52-33 advantage.

Tip-off time at the Cajundome is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

Cajuns On The Road To Take On Golden Flashes

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team wraps-up a short two-game road trip on Monday evening, when they travel to Kent, Ohio, to take on the Kent St. Golden Flashes, in non-conference action.

UL, who fell to Duquesne, 84-65, on Saturday night, is 3-4 on the year, while Kent St. comes into the match-up with an overall record of 2-1.

The game will mark the first, ever, between the two schools.

Tip-off time is scheduled for 6 o'clock.

Cajuns Whip Colonels, 84-57

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team wrapped-up play in the three-day Beryl Shipley Classic on Sunday, defeating the Nicholls St. Colonels, 84-57, at the Cajundome.

The Cajuns led it at the half, 36-31, and then outscored Nicholls St., 48-26, in the second half, for the  victory.

UL was able to out-shoot Nicholls state from the field, 52%-33%, and were also able to out-rebound the Colonels, by a 38-29 count.

The Cajuns were led by sophomore forward J.J. Thomas, who had 15 points, and seven rebounds, while junior guard Darnell Jackson added 12 points, and five boards.

In a losing cause, Chris Talkington paced the Colonels, with 16 points, and eight rebounds.

With the win, UL improves to 3-3 on the year, while Nicholls St. drops to 1-4.

The Cajuns return to action this Saturday, when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to take on the Duquesne Dukes, in  non-conference action.

Cajuns Fall to Titans, 69-63

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team fell for the first time at home on Saturday evening, dropping a 69-63 decision to the Cal-State Fullerton Titans, in the second day of play in the Beryl Shipley Classic, at the Cajundome.

Forward Scottie Farrington hit a jumper at the 9:07 mark of the second half, giving UL a 51-49 lead, but it would be the last one the Cajuns would have.

Cal-State Fullerton went on to outscore the Cajuns 20-12 the rest of the way, to take home the six-point win.

UL was able to out-shoot Cal-State Fullerton from the field, 47%-42%, but the Titans connected on eight three-pointers, compared to only one for the Cajuns.

Guard D.J. Seely and forward Orane Chin led the Titans in scoring, with 18 points each, while center Kadeem Coleby paced the Cajuns in a losing cause, with 14 points.

With the win, Cal-State Fullerton improves to 3-0 on the year, while the Cajuns dropped to 2-3.

UL will close out play in the tournament on Sunday afternoon, when they take on the Nicholls St. Colonels.

Tip-off time is scheduled for 3;35 pm.

Cajuns Prevail Over Huskies, 73-64

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team won their home opener on Friday evening, defeating the Houston Baptist Huskies, 73-64, in the opening night of the Beryl Shipley Classic, at the Cajundome.

UL was able to out-shoot Houston Baptist, 45%-29%, and were also able to out-rebound the Huskies, by a count of 42-35.

The Cajuns were led by Josh Brown, who poured in a game-high 17 points, along with nine rebounds, while Kaddem Coleby added 16 points.

With the victory, UL improves to 2-2 on the year, while Houston Baptist drop to 1-2.

The Cajuns are right back in action in the tournament on Saturday evening, as the take on Cal State-Fullerton.

Tip-off time is set for 7:35 pm.

Cajuns Open Home Schedule With Beryl Shipley Classic

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team opens the home portion of their 2011-2012 schedule this weekend, playing host to the four-team Beryl Shipley Classic at the Cajundome.

The tournament begins at 5 o'clock on Friday, with Cal State-Fullerton facing Nicholls St.

UL then steps in front of the home crowd for the first time this year, taking on Houston Baptist, at 7:35 pm.

The Cajuns are 2-1 on the year, while Houston Baptist comes into the tourney with a record of 1-1.

Friday night's game can be heard on Hot 107.9, while the games on Saturday and Sunday can be heard on both Hot 107.9 and ESPN 1420 and espn1420.com.

Cajuns Drop 78-58 Decision To Bison

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team fell in day two of the Hilltop Challenge in San Francisco, California, falling to the North Dakota St. Bison, 78-58.

UL was able to outrebound North Dakota st., by a count of 40-28, but the Bison did their damage from the floor, out-shooting the Cajuns, 50%-33%.

Guard Mike Felt had 15 points off the bench to lead the Bison scoring attack, freshman guard Elfrid Payton paced the Cajuns, with 13 points off the bench.

Junior guard Darnell Jackson pulled down ten rebounds to lead UL in that category.

With the win, North Dakota St. improved to 2-0, while the Cajuns fell to 1-1.

UL wraps-up play in the weekend tourney on Sunday, when they take on the host school, the San Francisco Dons, at 5:30 pm.
