Cajuns Whip Colonels, 84-57
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team wrapped-up play in the three-day Beryl Shipley Classic on Sunday, defeating the Nicholls St. Colonels, 84-57, at the Cajundome.
The Cajuns led it at the half, 36-31, and then outscored Nicholls St., 48-26, in the second half, for the victory.
UL was able to out-shoot Nicholls state from the field, 52%-33%, and were also able to out-rebound the Colonels, by a 38-29 count.
The Cajuns were led by sophomore forward J.J. Thomas, who had 15 points, and seven rebounds, while junior guard Darnell Jackson added 12 points, and five boards.
In a losing cause, Chris Talkington paced the Colonels, with 16 points, and eight rebounds.
With the win, UL improves to 3-3 on the year, while Nicholls St. drops to 1-4.
The Cajuns return to action this Saturday, when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to take on the Duquesne Dukes, in non-conference action.
Cajuns Defeat Colonels, 38-21
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns captured their home opener on Saturday evening, defeating the Nicholls St. Colonels, 38-21, in the 11th annual Herbert Heymann Football Classic, at Cajun Field.
The UL defense came up big once again, recording eight sacks, and two turnovers, including a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown by cornerback Dwight "Bill" Bentley.
Special teams was also a big factor in the Cajuns' win, as Melvin White returned a blocked kicked 68 yards for a touchdown, and Brett Baer nailed a 49-yard field goal.
Cajuns Host Colonels
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun football is at home for the first time in 2011 on Saturday, when they play host to the Nicholls St. Colonels, in the 11th Annual Herbert Heymann Classic, at Cajun Field.

College Football Week Three Predictions
On Thursday, the third-ranked LSU Tigers open up their SEC schedule, taking on the 25th-ranked Mississippi St. Bulldogs, in Starkville, Mississippi.
On Saturday, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns host the Nicholls St. Colonels, in the Cajuns' home opener, at Cajun Field.
Also on Saturday, there's the big national match-up, featuring top-ranked Oklahoma, and #5 Florida St.
