LSU Travels To Houston

The LSU Tiger men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Houston, Texas, to take on the Houston Cougrs, in non-conference play.

LSU lost to South Alabama, in overtime, 79-75, last Wednesday, to fall to 3-3 on the year.

The Cougars will come into the match-up with an overall record of 3-2.

Tip-off time at Hofheinz Pavilion, in Houston, Texas, is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

LSU Falls To South Alabama, 79-75, In OT

The LSU Tiger men's basketball team had their modest two-game win streak snapped on Wednesday evening, as coach Trent Johnson's squad fell to the South Alabama Jaguars, 79-75, in overtime, in non-conference action, in Baton Rouge.

With LSU leading, 69-67, South Alabama's Freddie Goldstein hit a 16-foot jumper from the right wing to tie the game at 69 apiece with only one second remaining in regulation, bringing the game into overtime.

The field goal by Goldstein was only his second of the game, and helped erase an 11-point South Alabama deficit over the last 8:04.

The Jaguars outscored the Tigers, 10-6, in an overtime period in which they never trailed, en route to the four-point win.

South Alabama out-shot LSU from the field, 51%-42%, and also out-rebounded the Tigers, 37-27.

Augustine Rubit led the Jaguars in scoring, with 20 points, while Xavier Roberson added 19.

For LSU, in a losing cause, Andre Stringer poured in 20 points, while Ralston Turner chipped in with 13.

With the victory, South Alabama improved to 2-2 on the young season, while the Tigers fell to 3-3.

LSU returns to action on Tuesday, November 29, when they take on the Houston Cougars, in non-conference action.

LSU Downs Georgia Tech, 59-50

The LSU Tigers captured fifth place in the eight-team Charleston Classic basketball tournament on Sunday, defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 59-50, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Georgia Tech was able to out-shoot LSU from the field, 42%-33%, but the Tigers were actually able to make one more field goal than the Yellow Jackets (21-20).

LSU was also able to make three more three-point baskets than Georgia Tech, with an 8-5 advantage.

The Tigers were led by freshman guard Anthony Hickey, who scored a game-high 20 points, while junior guard Mfon Udofia paced the Yellow Jackets in a losing cause, with 14 points.

With the win, LSU improves to 3-2 on the year, while Georgia Tech fell to 3-2.

Cajuns Prevail Over Huskies, 73-64

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team won their home opener on Friday evening, defeating the Houston Baptist Huskies, 73-64, in the opening night of the Beryl Shipley Classic, at the Cajundome.

UL was able to out-shoot Houston Baptist, 45%-29%, and were also able to out-rebound the Huskies, by a count of 42-35.

The Cajuns were led by Josh Brown, who poured in a game-high 17 points, along with nine rebounds, while Kaddem Coleby added 16 points.

With the victory, UL improves to 2-2 on the year, while Houston Baptist drop to 1-2.

The Cajuns are right back in action in the tournament on Saturday evening, as the take on Cal State-Fullerton.

Tip-off time is set for 7:35 pm.

Cajuns Drop 78-58 Decision To Bison

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun men's basketball team fell in day two of the Hilltop Challenge in San Francisco, California, falling to the North Dakota St. Bison, 78-58.

UL was able to outrebound North Dakota st., by a count of 40-28, but the Bison did their damage from the floor, out-shooting the Cajuns, 50%-33%.

Guard Mike Felt had 15 points off the bench to lead the Bison scoring attack, freshman guard Elfrid Payton paced the Cajuns, with 13 points off the bench.

Junior guard Darnell Jackson pulled down ten rebounds to lead UL in that category.

With the win, North Dakota St. improved to 2-0, while the Cajuns fell to 1-1.

UL wraps-up play in the weekend tourney on Sunday, when they take on the host school, the San Francisco Dons, at 5:30 pm.
