Kasey Shepherd found his form from a year ago and Louisiana placed four men in double figures as the Ragin' Cajuns hammered Oral Roberts, 76-52 at the MGM Main Event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Tuesday evening.

Shepherd, who missed the last fifteen games last season with an injury, had averaged just three points per game over the first four games of the year.  But the junior from Houston came off the bench and lit the fire that turned into a blaze for the Cajuns.

Shepherd tied his career high with 22 points on 7-8 shooting, including 4-5 from three point range.  He also was a perfect 4-4 from the firee throw line.  He added six rebounds, five assists and three steals in his 24 minutes of playing time.

Devonta Walker scored 13 points, while Brian Williams had eleven and freshman Johnathan Stove chipped in ten as the Cajuns ran out to a 36-25 lead at halftime and never were headed in the second half.

Denell Henderson led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and ten rebounds, while Kory BIllbury added 13, but was just 4-16 shooting.  Leading scorer Obi Emegano was held to just one field goal before fouling out with nine points at the 5:12 mark.

The Cajuns (2-3) went on a 9-0 run to break an 8-8 tie beginning at the 14:44 mark of the first half.  It took just two minutes to put the Cajuns ahead 17-8.  Oral Roberts got back within eight points three different times, but Shepherd nailed a three pointer as the first half ended to give the Cajuns an eleven point lead and all the momentum.

Oral Roberts (1-3) got within eight on one occasion in the second half when Brandon Conley scored on a layup to cut the Cajuns lead to 37-29 with 16:38 to go.  But the Cajuns outscored ORU 20-8 over the next eight minutes to take a 58-37 lead with 9:36 left.  ORU got no closer than seventeen points the rest of the way.

The Cajuns shot 51.8% from the field (29-56), 50% from the three point line (6-12) while holding ORU to just 26.8% shooting (15-56) and 3-18 from beyond the arc.  The Cajuns also outrebounded the Eagles 42-34, with six different players tallying at least four rebounds each.

Louisiana outscored Oral Roberts 36-22 in the paint, 19-10 off turnovers, 12-7 in second chance points, 8-0 on fast break points and the Cajuns' bench outscored ORU 55-15.

The Cajuns will now get an eight day break before returning home to the CAJUNDOME Wednesday, December 3rd against Jackson State.  That game marks the first of four games in December where fans can buy one ticket and get the second for free.
