A New Orleans Saints running back is scheduled to make a free agency visit to the west coast.

Tim Hightower will be visiting the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.

The 30-year old Hightower appeared in all 16 games for New Orleans last year, including one start, while rushing for 548 yards and 4 touchdowns.

After playing his college football at Richmond, Hightower was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the 5th round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Hightower spent three seasons in Arizona, before being traded to the Washington Redskins, where he played in only five games, prior to suffering a serious knee injury in 2011.

A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Hightower missed the next three seasons, recovering from his knee injury, before joining the Saints in 2015.

In two season with the Saints, Hightower has appeared in 24 games, including 4 starts, while compiling 923 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns.

I’d like to see Hightower return to the Saints next year, as he proved to be a solid #2 running back last season, but the Saints resigned running back Travaris Cadet on Wednesday, and there’s only so much money to go around.

Keep in mind, Mark Ingram and Hightower combined for 1,591 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

George Rogers, who still holds the single-season franchise record, rushing for 1,674 yards in 1981, combined with Wayne Wilson to rush for 1,801 yards and 14 scores that season, in what was much more running game-friendly.

That’s awfully good production for a passing team.

Hightower and Ingram provided the Saints with a more than solid ground attack last season, and it would be nice to see both back, if possible.
