Being released from injured reserve means that Cobbs can catch on with another team and play right away.

Had he remained on IR, he would have had to sit out for an entire season.

Typically when a player on IR is released by a team, he reached some sort of injury settlement with the team. When this occurs, it usually means the player felt he was healthy enough to play, and did not feel as if he should be on injured reserve.
