Actor Rob Lowe, who cuurently stars in NBC's "Parks and Recreation", tweeted on Wednesday that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning may be retiring from the NFL.

Lowe tweeted; "Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow. #Colts."

Notice, he did qualify the statement with the term "hearing."

For what it's worth, Lowe is friends with Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Manning missed the entire 2011 NFL season after a setback in his recovery from a May 23 neck surgery.

The Colts officially ruled Manning out for the season opener against the Houston Texans, ending his consecutive starts streak of 208 games.

After seeking other opinions, Manning had another surgery on September 8, 2011.

Manning, a three-time league MVP who will turn 36 in March, has thrown for 54,828 career yards, and 399 touchdowns.
