New Orleans Saints rookie 1st round pick Marcus Davenport injured his thumb and will need surgery to repair it, according to a report from Nick Underhill of The Advocate.

Davenport, who the Saints traded their 2019 first round pick and 2018 first round pick to move up into the first round and select 14th overall, will participate in Saints mandatory minicamp, as the injury is "no big deal", according to ESPN's Dianna Russini.

He will underdo surgery on the thumb next week once minicamp wraps up.

He is expected to be fully healed and ready to participate at the beginning of training camp.

Davenport will have approximately 6 weeks to recover before entering his first NFL training camp.
