For Acadiana residents seeking refuge from flood waters, the American Red Cross has opened two shelters.

In Lafayette, the Heymann Center is being opened as an overnight shelter.

In New Iberia, the Cyr-Gates Community Center in City Park will serve as a shelter.

IMPORTANT: Evacuees must present Identification to show residence is in affected area and important personal documents.

Anyone evacuating to a Red Cross reception center should bring essential items for each member of the family, as possible:

  • Prescriptions and emergency medications
  • Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements
  • Hygiene supplies and other comfort items
  • Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula and toys
  • Special items for family members who are elderly or disabled
  • Chargers for any electronic devices you bring with you

Red Cross has opened nine other shelters across south Louisiana. Those shelters are concentrated in East Baton Rouge, Livingston and Tangipahoa Parishes.
