When you ask anyone on the Ragin' Cajuns who the leader of the defense is, the answer is always the same: Otha Peters.

The senior linebacker emerged on the Sun Belt scene last year as a junior, collecting 68 tackles on his way to earning Head Coach Mark Hudspeth's trust. Last year against ULM, Peters stepped in front of his teammates at halftime and took control, along with his lifelong friend, senior wide receiver Al Riles. They both never let go of the reins.

Peters brings an edge to a team looking to erase last year's losing record from memory. He's not exactly the guy you want to mess with on the football field.

He hits hard, and his leadership is starting to hit home with his teammates too.

"Knowing that [Dominique] Tovell was leaving last year, I knew somebody on the defense was going to have to step up and become that vocal leader," Peters said with confidence. "I've been doing it day by day, making sure the team is getting closer and closer to the season's start."

Peters could have a breakout season, but if he gets his teammates to perform at a higher level, Coach Hud won't care about any of the statistics.

Defensively, the Cajuns have something to prove in 2016. Peters knows it, and he's not going to let the rest of his brothers let go of the rope. If they want to change the attitude and approach, Peters is the type of guy to let lead the charge.
