The New Orleans Pelicans duo of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins combined for 69 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists on Sunday night, but it wasn’t enough, as they fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-110.

New Orleans (23-37) is now 0-3 since acquiring Cousins in a blockbuster trade last week.

“It’s a learning curve,” said Cousins. “Every moment I think we’re getting better. Every game I think we’re getting better.”

Cousins was in foul trouble throughout the night, but still finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds, becoming the first player in over 30 years (Moses Malone in ’86) to put up that stat line in less than 22 minutes of play.

Davis set a franchise record for scoring in a quarter with 24 in the first, finishing with 38 for the game.

Despite their performances, New Orleans couldn’t get much help elsewhere, and couldn’t stop OKC All-Star Russell Westbrook from recording his 29th triple-double of the seasonĀ (41 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists).

“I just try to be aggressive when I can,” said Westbrook. “I just play. The game will tell you what to do.”

Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday struggled, going 3-9 from the field, committing 5 turnovers.

His play has dipped in production since the Cousins trade.

“I think he’s looking to be a pass-first point guard,” said Davis of Holiday. “We need him to just be aggressive.”

With the loss, New Orleans is 3.5 games back of 8th place in the Western Conference with 22 games left. They’re also 4.5 games back of last place in the Western Conference.
