Bob Marlin's Ragin' Cajuns are on a roll with four straight victories, and the coach is finally starting to get the guard play he wants.

With Shawn Long patrolling the paint, a little help on the perimeter goes a long way for the Cajuns. In their recent four game win streak, Jay Wright, Hayward Register and Kasey Shepherd stepped up and let their presence be known.

"The guard play has been consistent, and it needs to continue moving forward if we want to win," Marlin said.

It wasn't so easy to keep the confidence up. The Cajuns are still the only team in the Sun Belt shooting under 30 percent from three point range (29%), but sometimes all a shooter needs is to see a couple fall to find his groove again.

With a ruptured tendon in his shooting hand, Shepherd found the bottom of the bucket six times against South Alabama. Register splashed a few home too, which can only help their stroke and start to spread out the defense.

"When you hit two in a row, it seems like it really gives you a boost," Marlin said. He added, "Our guys know that I have confidence in them. If they're a shooter, they have the green light."

Marlin also mentioned that when Wright is clicking, the team plays better as a whole unit. If they can get those three going, things will really start to breathe on the offensive end. Long, and Bryce Washington, would love seeing some single teams in the paint.

If you listen closely, Marlin actually mentions that Washington reminded them of Tim Duncan when they were recruiting him. With a basketball IQ that high, there's no wonder the sophomore is already such a big piece of the team.

Take some time to listen to the coach himself, and let him preview their upcoming home games at the Cajundome.
