The seventh-ranked LSU Tigers captured the middle game of a three-game, weekend, non-conference series on Saturday, defeating the Purdue Boilermakers, 4-2, at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The win, coupled with LSU's 10-0 win over Purdue on Friday night, gave the Tigers the first two games of the series, and presents them with an opportunity to complete the sweep on Sunday.

Purdue jumped on top in the top of the third, when Cody Strong delivered a two-out double, scoring Jack Amaro, to make it 1-0.

The Boilermakers added another run in the top of the fourth, when Conner Hudnall brought home Kyle Upp with a two-out double, to extend the lead to 2-0.

The game stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh, when LSU finally broke the ice, scoring three runs on three hits, as the Tigers took a 3-2 lead.

LSU added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth, when a one-out double by Sean McMullen brought home Alex Bregman, to make the score 4-2, and help the home team to the two-run win.

Bregman and McMullen each had two hits to lead the way for LSU, offensively, as the Tigers out-hit the Boilermakers, 9-6.

Nate Fury (1-0) recorded the win out of the bullpen for the Tigers, while Mike Lutz (0-1) suffered the loss for Purdue.

With the win, LSU improved to 13-2 on the season, while Purdue fell to 1-9.

The two teams will conclude their three-game set on Sunday, with a single game beginning at 1 o'clock.
