Johnny Jones' 2013-14 LSU Tiger basketball team made their debut this morning in Ahmerst, Masacchusetts. It ended with a close 92-90 loss to the UMass Minutemen.

Johnny O'Bryant led the Tigers with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds to go with 2 blocks, but early second half foul trouble saw him spend some time on the bench. LSU missed him when he was off the floor, as UMass stretched the Tiger defense.

Another sour note for the Tigers was the debut of highly touted freshmen Jarell Martin. The McDonald's All-American played the first 33 seconds of the game, before injuring his ankle and limping off the floor. He did not return.

Anthony Hickey (pictured) picked up most of Martin's minutes, finishing with 16 points off the bench. Starters Andre Stringer and freshmen Jordan Mickey added 21 and 16 respectively.

UMass shot 40 free throws, compared to LSU's 25.

The Tigers (0-1) will return home for a Saturday matchup with Northwestern State (1-0). Tip-off from the P-MAC is set for 7:00.
