The tenth-ranked LSU Tigers split an SEC home split-doubleheader with 19th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, winning the first game, 3-2, before dropping the second game, 5-1, at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

With the outcome of the two games, LSU remains one-and-one-half games behind first-place Ole Miss in the SEC West standings.

In the first game, the story was Aaron Nola. The LSU right-hander threw a complete-game four hitter, not allowing a walk, while striking out nine, for his eighth victory of the year, against only one defeat.

Spencer Turnbull, who fell to 5-5, was the hard luck loser, allowing only six hits and two runs over eight innings.

Mark Laird led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-4, as LSU outhit the Crimson Tide, 6-4, for their sixth-consecutive series-opening win.

Justin Kamplain (5-3) picked-up the complete game win for the Crimson Tide, allowing only four hits and one run, while not issuing a walk.

Alden Cartwright (1-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers.

LSU now stands at 36-14-1, overall, and 14-11-1 in the SEC, while Alabama is currently 32-19, overall, and 14-12 in league play.
