Lexie Elkins Wins Student-Athlete Of The Year/Seven Cajuns Named To All-Sun Belt Team

Catcher Lexie Elkins, a senior on Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team, was named the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Student/Athlete of the Year on Tuesday night, marking the third-consecutive year she has taken home top honors.

A senior from Victoria, Texas, who became the first player in league history to win the award three-consecutive seasons, Elkins hasn't played since late March, due to injury.

Still, the top draft pick in the recent National Pro Fastpitch Draft, Elkins led the nation in batting average (.538), slugging percentage (1.263) and home runs per game (0.59), while hitting a 17 home runs, which led the league, and 41 RBI's.

Elkins long with outfielders Shellie Landry and Aleah Craighton,  shortstop D.J. Sanders, and designated player Sara Corbello were named to the 2016 All-Sun Belt Conference Team, while second baseman Hayley Hayden was tabbed to the second-team.

Stewart, a second team selection in 2015, was also named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, after compiling an overall record of 25-4, to go along with a 1.42 ERA.
