Lakers Slip Past Hornets 93-91

With loud chants of “Beat L.A.!” pouring out from the soldout crowd at the New Orleans Arena, the Hornets couldn’t hold on to their 4th quarter lead. In the end, the Lakers slipped out of New Orleans with a 93-91 win.

Key players were out for both teams, including Lakers star Kobe Bryant who missed the game with a sore right shin.

Hornets head coach Monty Williams was forced to use his NBA-high 23rd different starting lineup. Star shooting guard Eric Gordon sat out with back stiffness that still lingered from Saturday night’s win over Minnesota. Trevor Ariza sat out because Williams wanted to get youngsters Al-Farouq Aminu, Lance Thomas, and Xavier Henry more playing time.

Carl Landry (pictured left) led New Orleans off the bench with 20 points and 11 rebounds, impressive numbers when you consider the size of Los Angeles (Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum).

Marco Belinelli was fantastic in his team high 50th start of the season. The Italian scored 20, including an impressive 4 three pointers. More impressive was the 5 three pointers and 11 assists put in by NOLA point guard Greivis Vasquez. With the news on Monday that Jarrett Jack would miss the remainder of the season with a broken foot, the Venezuelan (Vasquez) will log plenty of minutes in the final few weeks of the season.

The Hornets will remain in New Orleans for the rest of the week. Wednesday, they’ll play the 3rd game of a 5 game homestand when they host the Sacramento Kings. Tip-off from the Hive is set for 7:00.
