The Lafayette Area Football Officials voted unanimously on Monday to boycott the first varsity games to kickoff the 2015 high school football season.

At issue is a pay increase that the referees are seeking.

A proposed $5.00 increase for the officials, who are seeking a $5-$10 increase, depending on the sport, was voted down in January.

Since that time, there have been numerous whispers of a referee boycott.

Now, there are more than whispers.

The Louisiana High School Officials Association say they've only had two pay increases between the years 1991-2007.

The LHSAA has proposed keeping compensation for officials the same year, and then revisit the possible pay increase for the officials for the 2016-2017 school year.

There is still time for the two sides to come to an agreement, but as of now, there won't be any officials, or at least enough of them, for the opening week of the high school football season.

Jamboree action is scheduled for the final weekend of August, with the regular season set to being on Thursday, September 3, or Friday, September 4 for most teams.
