A state school, who has had a lot of success in recent years, in losing its softball coach to a Power Five school.

Justin's World of Softball reported on Sunday that Louisiana Tech head coach Mike Montgomery is leaving the school to accept the head coaching job at Maryland.

The 53-year old Montgomery spent the last seven seasons at Louisiana Tech, compiling an overall record of 226-163, including three Conference USA championships and a pair of NCAA regional appearances.

Last season, the Bulldogs went 45-16, their 5th-consecutive winning season, while advancing to an NCAA Regional.

Prior to his time at Louisiana Tech, Montgomery spent 8 years (2003-2010) as the head coach at Centenary and two seasons (2011-2012) as the head coach at Northern Colorado.

If indeed Montgomery does take the job at Maryland, it would Louisiana Tech as the one Division I softball program without a head coach.
