High School Football Playoffs Continue Friday Night
A number of Acadiana area teams remain in contention as the 2012 LHSAA foot ball playoffs moves into the regional round this weekend.
In class 5A, 12th-seeded New Iberia, coming off of a 13-8 win over Scotlandville, will travel to Baton Rouge to take on 5th-seeded Catholic-Baton Rouge on Friday night, while while 14th-seeded Acadiana, fresh off 63-42 win over Zachary, will head to Monroe, to take on 3rd-seeded West Monroe.

In class 4A, four teams from the area will be at home, with 17th-seeded Breaux Bridge, who topped Plaquemine, 31-3, last Friday, meeting top-seeded Neville, 30th-seeded St. Martinville, who upset 3rd-seeded Lutcher, 30-29, squaring off with 14th-seeded LaGrange, 7th-seeded St. Thomas More, a 56-6 winner over Warren Easton taking on 10th-seeded St. Augustine, and 4th-seeded Teurlings, who beat Woodlawn-Shreveport, 42-6, battling 13th-seeded Bastrop.
Moving on to the class 3A bracket, 2nd-seeded Notre Dame, who defeated Patterson, 38-26, last Friday, will host 18th-seeded St. Charles this Friday, with 3rd-seeded Eunice, a 49-16 winner over Lusher Charter in the opening round hosting 14th-seeded Farmerville, while 6th-seeded Rayne, who was victorious over Church Point, 42-8, in the opening round, travels to take on 22nd-seeded East Feliciana. In other AAA action this Friday, 10th-seeded North Vermilion, who defeated Avoyelles, 38-36, last Friday, will travel to face 26nd-seeded Iowa, while 13th-seeded Jennnigs will be on the road to take on 4th-seeded Loranger.
Two Acadiana area schools remain in the class 2A bracket, with 7th-seeded Catholic-New Iberia, a 33-19 winner over Mansfiled in the opening round, traveling to 23rd-seeded G.W. Carver, and 14th-seeded Loreauville, a 42-25 winner over Ville Platte last week, on the road to take on 3rd-seeded University Lab.
Finally, in the class A bracket, 3rd-seeded Vermilion Catholic, and easy 48-10 winner over St. Martin’s Episcopal last week, will be hosting 14th-seeded Cedar Creek, while 10th-seeded Westminster Christian, a 42-14 winner over Ascension Catholic in the opening round, will travel to 7th-seeded Block.
