Chad Beck

 

Relief pitcher Chad Beck, who pitched for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team back in 2006, was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.

The Blue Jays are familiar with the 27-year old right-hander, as Beck has spent the last four season with the organization, including parts of the last two seasons with the big league club, before being designated for assignment on December 26.

Beck appeared in 14 games for Toronto in 2012, compiling a 6.32 ERA in 15.2 innings of work, all out of the bullpen, after going 2-0, with 18 saves, and a 1.31 ERA. at AAA Las Vegas.

Beck played briefly for the Blue Jays in 2011, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings in three outings.

Beck was drafted in the 14th round of the 2006 draft out of Louisiana by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who traded him to the Blue Jays in 2008 for infielder David Eckstein.
