Five Intriguing College Football Games This Weekend – From the Bird’s Nest

There are some big conference games happening this weekend in college football.  And, as always, there are some that are particularly catching my eye. While none of these will feature the two best teams in a certain conference, they’re still really important games.

OKLAHOMA vs. TEXAS (Saturday, 11am ABC) –Oklahoma has had their way with the Longhorns the last few years and a couple of those games have been downright embarassing.  The Sooners are solid favorites again this time, and, while things have been quiet concerning Mack Brown the last few weeks, things will be anything BUT quiet if Texas loses again…especially if they lose big.

FLORIDA at LSU (Saturday, 2:30, CBS) – LSU is favored…and they should be.  The Tigers’ offense thus far is as good as any LSU team I can remember.  But the Tigers are going to get their first real test against a good defensive team this weekend.  The question is, how much can the Gators hold LSU down?  LSU’s defense hasn’t been great by Tigers’ standards, but Florida is no offensive juggernaut.  This one will be interesting to watch, mostly because we’re going to find out just how great this LSU offense is.  They aren’t facing Georgia’s offense this week.

BAYLOR at KANSAS STATE (Saturday, 3pm, FOX) – Yeah, I know.  They haven’t played anyone yet.  I get that.  But pay attention here.  In four games, the FEWEST amount of points Baylor has scored in a game is 69.  The competition gets tougher, but when you’re putting up almost 70 a game, you’re going to be a confident bunch.  Baylor ruined the Wildcats’ chance to play for the BCS National Championship last year.  Bill Snyder’s club will, I’m sure, remember that.  The question is, will it matter?

OREGON at WASHINGTON (Saturday, 3pm, Fox Sports 1) – Washington had a tough loss last week at Stanford and now they get to play another top five team this week.  This is as tough a back to back schedule as any in America.  Washington is at home.  Washington is angry about last week.  Washington has something to prove.  Close game?  Maybe.  Just maybe.

LOUISIANA-MONROE at TEXAS STATE (Saturday, 6pm, Longhorn Network) – The Warhawks had their issues BEFORE Kolton Browning went down with an injury.  Last week, they got throttled at home against WKU.  We learned last week Texas State is not a great offensive team.  The question is, can ULM generate enough offense.  The second is, do they care any more?
