Did the Carolina Panthers Steal a Trick Play from the Movie ‘Little Giants’? [VIDEO]

Shortly before halftime of the Carolina Panthers victory over the Houston Texans, the Panthers made the Texans look like a bunch of sandlot players by scoring a touchdown off of a trick play involving a funky formation and a hidden ball -style handoff.

After the game, Panthers’ offense coordinator Rob Chudzinski admitted he got the inspiration for the tomfoolery from an unlikely source — the 1994 Rick Moranis/Ed O’Neill pee wee football classic ‘Little Giants.’

Despite the similarities, the Panthers play and the one used by the pint-sized team in ‘Little Giants’ are a bit different — in the movie, the QB puts the ball on the ground, which would be illegal in the NFL.

Still, they are close enough that we expect other offense coordinators to start scouring ‘The Longest Yard’ and ‘Necessary Roughness’ for their next trick play idea. Let’s just hope coaches don’t start cribbing from ‘Air Bud: Golden Receiver.’

Check out both plays below and see if you notice the similarities.
