Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun men’s basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon, when coach Bob Marlin’s squad travels to Huntsville, Texas to take on the Sam Houston St. Bearkats in the second round of the Tournament.

Tip-off time is scheduled for 2 o’clock, and you can hear all the play-by-play action on our sister-station, Hot 107.9 FM &, beginning with the pregame show at 1:30 pm.

Louisiana head coach Bob Marlin will be coaching against his former school in Sam Houston St., where he was head coach from 1998-2010.

The winner moves on to play in the third round of the CIT, at campus sites in the 32-team event.

For Louisiana, the CIT is their second-consecutive postseason appearance, and their 14th in program history, since beginning NCAA competition in the 1970-1971 season.

Louisiana, who is coming off of an 83-68 opening round win over Incarnate Word, their first postseason victory since back in 1992, is 21-13 on the season, while Sam Houston St., a member of the Southland Conference, is 26-8 after eliminating UNC-Wilmington, 87-69, in the first round.

The Cajuns are outscoring the opposition, 77.5/69.4, and out-shooting foes from the floor, 45.9%/42.3%, while holding down a 39.8/33.1 rebounding edge.

UL is paced by junior forward Shawn Long, who leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, at 16.3 ppg, and 10.3 rpg, respectively, and senior forward Brian Williams, who is averaging 10.1 points, to go along with 3.7 rebounds a contest.

The Bearkats are out-scoring the opposition, 75.2/59.7, while out-shooting foes from the field, 43.0%/38.6%, and holding down a 40.4/32.9 rebounding advantage.

Sam Houston St. is paced by senior guard Demarcus Gatlin, who is averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds-per-game, along with senior guard Jabari Peters, who is averaging 10.0 points, to go along with 4.7 rebounds a contest.

Louisiana leads the all-time series, 8-7, including a 95-85 victory back in 2008, the last time the two programs met.
