The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns open Sun Belt Conference play this weekend as they host Appalachian State in a three game series at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

The Cajuns (9-5) dropped a tough 13-inning contest to Louisiana Tech, 6-5 on Wednesday.  App State (8-9) meanwhile, took two games from North Carolina Central, scoring sixteen runs in the two contests, their best offensive output of the season.

Lefty Gunner Leger (3-1, 1.09 ERA), who has garnered SBC Pitcher of the Week Honors the past two weeks, gets the start for the Cajuns Friday.  He'll be opposed by App State right-hander Travis Holden (1-2, 6.10).  Saturday, right-hander Nick Lee (4-0, 2.25) goes for his fifth straight win and will be opposed by lefty Colin Schmid (2-2, 2.42). Sophomore Hogan Harris (1-0, 0.00) will get his second straight Sunday start this weekend, while App State will counter with Luke Watts (1-1, 2.96).

Of the Mountaineers' nine losses, eight have come to ranked teams.  They showed some signs this week of breaking out of a season long batting slump with their 16 runs against NCCU.  App State is hitting .215 as a club and averaging 3.8 runs per game.  Their pitching staff is much improved from a year ago with a 4.04 ERA.

The series between the two teams is tied 3-3 with neither team having won two straight games.

Game times are 6:00pm Friday, 2:00pm Saturday and 11:00am Sunday and can be heard on NewsTalk 96.5 KPEL-FM.
