The hype is real for the Ragin' Cajuns. A sweep of Sam Houston State translated into respect in the national rankings.

After picking up an extra innings win on Friday, the Cajuns clubbed 29 hits in their next two victories. Tony Robichaux threw ten pitchers in the series and shuffled the deck multiple times in the lineup and the field. It was a picture perfect beginning to the season in front of a fan base eager for excellence. Their efforts put them in the top ten teams in the country.

In the most recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association poll, the Cajuns moved up four spots from #13 to #9. Rankings don't matter much to Coach Robe, but they're a solid representation of the depth and skill of his team.

The Cajuns are the only team in the top ten from outside the Power Five conferences. Their upcoming trip to Houston could boost them even higher with a win over TCU, who check in at #13 in the NCBWA rankings. The people at D1 Baseball bumped them up two spots to #12 in their rankings, and Baseball America put them at #10 in the country. There are few teams that sport the Cajuns' pitching depth, and their hitting in the opening series clearly opened some eyes.

Baseball is a sport that rewards tunnel vision though. If the Cajuns get enamored with their ranking, they risk losing focus on Louisiana Tech in Ruston.

Kyle Clement, Brenn Conrad and several other Cajuns stepped up at the dish in their opening series. The starting pitchers and bullpen pitched to perfection, but can they keep it up in Houston? A win over Louisiana Tech would certainly help keep the ball rolling downhill.
