Louisiana's  Ragin' Cajun football team will be without the services of wide receiver Jamal Robinson and backup running back Torrey Pierce for the rest of the season, coach Mark Hudspeth announced today.

"Jamal Robinson had surgery yesterday on his foot, and he will be out the remainder of the season," said Hudspeth.

Robinson  suffered a lower leg injury in Tuesday's win over Texas State.. It marks the second surgery this season for the senior receiver. He suffered a knee injury in week 2 versus Louisiana Tech when he tore his meniscus. He returned versus Georgia State, after missing games at Ole Miss and Boise State.

Despite the missed time, Robinson still leads the Cajuns in receiving yards (260) and receiving touchdowns (4).

With limited action this season, Robinson is eligible to apply for a medical redshirt, something the Cajuns plan to do.

"We're going to apply for a redshirt for hardship, and I would find it disappointing if he did not get it," explained Hudspeth. "I feel like he'll get his fifth year back, so that's going to be pretty exciting to have him coming back next year."

In addition to Robinson, Louisiana will be without backup running back Torrey Pierce, as he suffered a season-ending leg injury against Texas State. The junior from River Ridge, LA has rushed 11 times for 43 yards this year.

"We'll miss both those guys, but you know what? That's an opportunity for somebody else to step up," noted Hudspeth. "We definitely have some guys that are capable and looking forward to that challenge of getting more quality playing time."

Louisiana's offense struggled with downfield passing in losses to Ole Miss and Boise State, two games that Robinson missed. After only playing 4 snaps in Tuesday's win over the Bobcats, the Cajun offense looked efficient in his absence. However, as Hudspeth explains, it's time for the entire receiving core to step up.

"There's not many Jamals out there. That's why those guys play in the National Football League," explained Hudspeth. "We're just going to have to rely on the guys to raise their game.

"We've got some guys that we're going to need to expediate the process of their development. I think CJ Bates is going to get a little more involved into the plans. Al Riles is going to have to be more of a weapon."

On a positive note, backup sophomore quarterback Jalen Nixon and sophomore linebacker Tremaine LIghtfoot has been cleared, and are eligible to play for the remainder of the season.
