The Buffalo Bills hired Rex Ryan as their new head coach on Monday.

Ryan spent the last six seasons as coach of the Jets. In Buffalo he replaces Doug Marrone, who opted out of his contract after the 2014 season ended.

The 52-year old Ryan compiled an overall record of 46-50 during his time with the Jets, and guided the team to back-to-back appearances in the AFC Championship Game in 2009 and 2010.

The Bills went 9-7 this season to match their best record in a decade, but they missed the  playoffs for the 15th-consecutive season, the longest streak in the NFL.

Ryan becomes the 18th head coach for the Bills in franchise history.
