SAN ANTONIO (AP) — It was a poorly kept secret around the Miami Heat this season: Shane Battier's 13th NBA season would be his last.

So these NBA Finals are Battier's farewell.

A champion in high school, a champion at Duke and a two-time champion with the Heat, Battier knew three years ago that three years in Miami would represent the final chapter of his career.

The drive to play is still there. He just decided that it's time to go do other things, one of them being a broadcasting job with ESPN starting next season.

He says he's not looking at these finals against the San Antonio Spurs as overly nostalgic either. He says, "We're here, so we may as well win the thing."
