The #15 LSU Tigers took on the #5 Auburn Tigers on the road Saturday night, hoping for offensive production and growth on defense. They didn't get either, as the Tigers of Auburn whooped the Tigers of LSU 41-7.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn used his spread offense to rack up 566 yards against LSU, scoring on their first four drives (field goal, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown), putting the game out of reach early for the Tigers from Baton Rouge.

Auburn's rushing attack gashed the LSU defense for 298 yards and 3 touchdowns. Leading the way was senior running back Cameron Artis-Payne, who carried 24 times for 126 yards. Quarterback Nick Marshall got it done on the ground as well, rushing for an impressive 116 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

"Our defense played hard," said LSU coach Les Miles. "Our offense didn't execute."

LSU's offense wasn't much better, scoring on one first half possession (1 yard Kenny Hilliard run), punting on six others, and running out of time at the end of the second half, despite the fact they had a timeout.

Miles' clock management will be discussed, but LSU has bigger issues on both sides of the ball.

At quarterback, true freshmen Brandon Harris made his first start, struggling to find any semblance of rhythm. He was under center for 7 Tiger possessions that ended with a 3 and out (punt), and another that ended on 4 downs. Through the air, Harris completed only 3 of 13 passes for 58 yards. He added 36 yards rushing.

Harris injured his ankle and was replaced by Anthony Jennings in the second half.

"He (Harris) had an ankle sprain, which brought him out," explained Miles.

Sophomore quarterback Jennings, who started the first 5 games of the LSU season, put up modest numbers (5-10 for 84 yards) against an Auburn defense playing with a large lead.

LSU managed only 280 total yards, being outgained by Auburn by 286 yards.

Miles wasn't cup caking where this LSU team currently stands.

"It will be a long, difficult day tomorrow," said Miles. "We'll have to develop stratgey to fit out players skills."

With the loss, LSU falls to 4-2 overall, 0-2 in SEC play.

With the victory, Auburn remains perfect at 5-0, 2-0 in SEC play. It marked their 300th SEC win in school history.

LSU hits the road again next week, traveling to Gainesville for a matchup with the Florida Gators (3-1, 2-1).

Florida won on the road Saturday versus Tennessee, scoring 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to claim a 10-9 victory.
