UL junior pitcher Austin Robichaux

 

The Los Angeles Angels selected Louisiana Ragin' Cajun junior pitcher Austin Robichaux in the 18th round, with pick number 539, on the third day of the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Saturday.

A native of Crowley, Louisiana, Robichaux is 7-3 with a 2.83 earned run average in 2014.

A second team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, Robichaux, a product of Notre Dame High School, has thrown 82.2 innings, allowing 62 hits, 26 earned runs, and 21 walks, while striking out 76 batters, heading into this weekend's NCAA Super Regional series against the Ole Miss Rebels.

The 6-foot-6, 170-pound right-hander was 9-2 with a 3.05 ERA as a sophomore in 2013, after going 2-4 with a 2.91 ERA. as a freshman in 2012.

Robichaux becomes the second Louisiana player to be selected by the Angles in this year's draft, joining outfielder Caleb Adams, who the Angles took in the tenth round on Friday.
