Detroit Tigers' right-hander Justin Verlander has been named the American League Cy Young Award winner by a unanimous vote.

Verlander won pitching's Triple Crown, leading the AL in wins (24), ERA (2.40) and strikeouts (250.)

He received all 28 first place votes cast.  Jered Weaver of the Angels finished second in the voting.  James Shields of Tampa was third.

Verlander is in the running to become the first pitcher to win the MVP award in the AL since 1986.
